Sumario:The article discusses the tightening of penal policies in Canada due to measures introduced by the Conservative Party since 2006. Topics include the political rhetoric surrounding the debate on punishment and crime; the economic cost of prison expansions and higher minimum sentencing requirements; and the author's reflection on his anti-prison expansion political campaign and use of the "treasury card" tactic which emphasizes the economic costs of prison expansion and subsequent cuts to public services.
