Some rapes and sexual harassments become the focus of mainstream and social media attnetion, while others are relegated to the background. Hear #metoo in India emphasizes the interdependent association between social media networks and mainstream mass media which can strengthen anti-rape and sexual harassment activism. It provides a contextual framework to the relationship between subaltern anti-rape feminist activists in India and transnational anti-rape cyberfeminism and investigates why hashtags may or may not be successful in digitally emerging countries.
