In Affective Justice Kamari Maxine Clarke explores the African Union's pushback against the ICC in order to theorize affect's role in shaping forms of justice in the contemporary period. Drawing on fieldwork in The Hague, the African Union in Addis Ababa, sites of post-election Violence in Kenya, and in Boko Haram's circuits in Northern Nigeria, Clarke formulates the concept of affective justice--an emotional response to competing interpretations of justice--to trace how affect becomes manifest in judicial practices. By detailing the effects of the ICC's all African-indictments, she outlines how affective responses to this call into question the 'objectivity' of ICC's mission to protect those victimized by violence and prosecute perpetrators of those crimes. In analyzing the effects of such cases, Clarke provides a fuller theorization of how people articulate what justice is and the mechanisms through which they do so"--Back cover NO Includes bibliographical references ([309]-335)and index CN KZ7312 SN 9781478006701 SN 1478006706 SN 9781478005759 SN 1478005750 K1 International Criminal Court K1 African Union K1 Afrikanische Union K1 Criminal Law : Africa K1 International crimes : Africa K1 Criminal justice, Administration of : Africa K1 Criminal justice, Administration of : International cooperation K1 International criminal courts : Africa K1 Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court K1 LAW / International K1 Criminal justice, Administration of K1 Criminal justice, Administration of ; International cooperation K1 Criminal Law K1 International crimes K1 International criminal courts K1 Bürgerkrieg K1 Humanitäres Völkerrecht K1 Rechtsethnologie K1 Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit K1 Völkerstrafrecht K1 Africa K1 Kenia K1 Nigeria K1 Sudan K1 Afrika : Afrikanische Union : Internationaler Strafgerichtshof : Ablehnung : Gerechtigkeitsgefühl : Gerechtigkeitsvorstellung
