678 |b Dr Sherman Xiaogang Lai (LCol, ret’, PLA) is an adjunct professor of political science at the Department of Political Science at Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) and obtained his PhD at Queen’s University at Kingston (2008), MA of War Studies at RMCC (2002). Before he immigrated, he served as a frontline foot soldier in China’s war against Vietnam, UN military observer and researcher at the Academy of Military Science of the Chinese Liberation Army during 1987-1997. In 2000, he immigrated to Canada. His current research interest is China’s maritime, naval and Arctic policies. His principal publications include “China’s Post-Cold War Challenges and the Birth of its Current Military Strategy,” Journal of Military and Strategic Studies (2016) and A Springboard to Victory: Shandong Province and the Chinese Communist Military and Financial Strength, 1937-1945 (Brill: 2011)
